The Second Sunday of May has been designated as special day of giving tribute to mothers and named as Mother’s Day that originated in the United States in the early 20th century, primarily thanks to the efforts of Anna Jarvis. She sought to honor her late mother, Ann, who had been a peace activist, with a day to celebrate all mothers. The first official Mother’s Day was celebrated in 1908, with a church service in Grafton, West Virginia. The holiday quickly gained popularity and was officially recognized by the US government in 1914.
Honoring mothers and celebrating Mother’s Day have many Scriptural foundations. One is on Proverbs 31:1031- it described of a woman who is diligent, wise, and compassionate. It highlights her value to her family and community, emphasizing her strength, dignity, and ability to provide for her household.
